Terms of use
Salmon Finder is free, and there is no account to sign up for. These terms exist mostly to be clear about what the app is and what it is not.
The one paragraph that matters
Salmon Finder reports fish counts published by other people. It is not a safety tool, a navigation tool, a weather service, or a substitute for current fishing regulations. Alaska will hurt you if you are careless, and a number on a phone is not a reason to be.
Using the app
Install it, use it, no charge. By using Salmon Finder you agree to these terms. If you disagree with them, the remedy is simple: delete the app.
Where the data comes from
All counts are published by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. We mirror them; we do not count fish ourselves, and we do not adjust, smooth or model the numbers. Salmon Finder is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for ADF&G. Counts get revised after publication, and we update to match when they do.
Don’t bet your safety on it
The app is provided as-is, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness or availability. Weirs fail, sonar goes offline, servers go down, and a station can stop reporting mid-season. Do not use Salmon Finder to make decisions about water crossings, tides, bear country, weather or anything else where being wrong has consequences. To the fullest extent the law allows, Devious Panda, Ltd is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app or this website.
Fishing regulations
A high count does not mean a water is open, and nothing in the app is legal advice. Openings, closures, emergency orders, bag limits and gear restrictions change fast and come from ADF&G alone. Check the current regulations before you fish. That is on you, every time.
Fair use of the app
Please do not scrape our servers, hammer the API, resell the data as your own product, or reverse-engineer the app. If you want the underlying counts, ADF&G publishes them and you should go to the source. If you want to build something interesting with them, email us — we are friendly about it.
Our stuff and yours
The app’s name, icon, design and code belong to Devious Panda, Ltd. The counts themselves are public data and belong to nobody. Screenshots for reviews, articles, forum posts and social media are welcome and need no permission.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the left is the last revision. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new version.
